The day I couldn’t afford a $3 trip to Starbucks

When I lived with my parents, I handled 3 jobs at a time. Working between Dunkin Donuts, Pizza Hut and Zales I put in at least 14 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week. This allowed me to help my parents with their bills and educate my younger brother & sister. Few years later I met my husband Sonny who at the time had two perfume stores in local malls in Milwaukee, WI. Working hard we built it into a seven figure business by having 5 mall locations and by exhibiting in 13 trade shows a year. I'll be honest, with such a large turn over small amounts like five-ten bucks didn't mean much to me until we started losing sales and eventually were left with our last store and no employees. While working there one afternoon I received a flyer from the mall informing us that Starbucks just opened for business & they were giving $1 off to all mall employees for first couple of days. I got excited as I love their Chai Latte and immediately decided to get one only to realize.... ....I had NO money whatsoever!!! Quietly, I went to the back room, made myself tea by heating the water in microwave and ...

5 Ways to Spoil Yourself!

As you might have noticed by my last 2 emails, my theme for this month is "Spoil Yourself". You also might be wondering: why I would tell you do do that? The reason is the more you take care of yourself, the more you feel better and the better you are at taking care of others. Last week I mentioned giving yourself things you love, this week I urge you to give your BODY what it loves, or even better yet... what it deserves. Our body does everything for us, so why wouldn't we do everything for it? Here are 5 tips on how you can Spoil your body today: 1) See an Acupuncturist, Chiropractor, Massage Therapist or other alternative health care practitioner, to give your body a quick natural tune up to make sure your body is functioning at its peak performance. (We do it for our cars, right?) 2) Choose healthier foods. It is true that we are what we eat. So look for naturally based foods that feed your brain and give you energy. 3) Get enough rest.  Sleep is the time your body needs to recharge and heal itself.  It is VERY critical for your body's health and also your mental health to give yourself that ...

How to protect your perfumes in summer?

How to protect your perfumes in summer?

Summer is here in many parts of the country; which means sunshine, hot temperatures and humidity. These can destroy your perfumes if you do not use precaution. I know how much you love your fragrances and I want to make sure you get the full value of your purchases and continue to enjoy their lovely scents. Here’s how to store your perfumes to keep them smelling beautiful for longer: 1) Store in an airtight bottle – this protects the perfume from air which can cause the fragrance to break down over time and may alter its scent. Make sure that if your bottle has a screw top that it is on tightly so no air can get in. 2) Limit exposure to heat and humidity – try to keep them out of the bathroom due to the steam caused by showers and baths. Also do not store them in the refrigerator. Although cool temperatures are best for storage, the humidity will damage them. 3) Keep them out of the sunlight! – Look for dim locations to store them: closets, drawers or chests are ideal. When you store bottles out in the open, the lighting can break down the scent over time. If your perfume ...

When my hubby pushed me into a hole…

When my hubby pushed me into a hole…

Last Saturday my husband pushed me into a hole. It was very deep, very dark and I was very scared! Not only did I scream all the way down, but I even stopped breathing for a moment. The good news is, I survived. (Obviously, as I am clearly able to write this note to you.) The truth is, it is not as bad as you may think. The hole was really an enclosed water slide and we were on family vacation in Wisconsin Dells. I was NOT expecting it, I WAS scared and I DID scream. It was all in fun and I eventually saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Nonetheless, it got me to thinking about how many times in our lives we are forced into situations that we are not ready for? How many times have we felt that life seemed like a dark scary hole? And how many times have we screamed and survived these moments? Knowing that there is always a light at the end of every tunnel is one of the things that always gets me through during these times. So, my amazing friends, when life gets uncomfortable, scary or even dark, trust in yourself. Our sub-conscious ...

How To Crave The Foods That Shed Pounds?

How To Crave The Foods That Shed Pounds?

Have you ever felt like your brain seemed wired to crave the most unhealthy foods possible? Did you ever think that it could be much easier to diet if you could only get your cravings under control? Scientists have found methods that allow you to train your brain into wanting healthy foods instead of junk food. One dietician, named Susan Roberts, has created a diet that manages to train your brain into desiring the healthiest of foods. It's basically a diet-free diet. The Instinct Diet, Roberts' book, details a step by step plan on how to quit sugary, fatty foods once and for all. The entire diet is based off of the rawest of human emotional bases, instinct. During the years when cavemen roamed the Earth, food was a very scarce thing. In order to survive, cavemen had to crave certain foods that had the nutrients that they needed. The brain is naturally hard wired to find calorie-rich foods, otherwise we would likely die of starvation. While we are born with natural cravings, most of the cravings that people feel are fabricated. No one naturally is born with a craving for energy drinks, nor are they born craving Twinkies. The Instinct Diet uses ...
